ATA looks to the modern alumna for event inspiration

On January 11, more than 80 Tufts alumnae gathered at Scholars bistro in downtown Boston for the first Ladies’ Happy Hour of 2012, sponsored by the Association of Tufts Alumnae (ATA). Attendees ranged from recent graduates to 40th reunion members, and engaged in lively discussion over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
“The best part for me was rubbing shoulders with so many accomplished women from so many different professions at all career stages,” says Amy Lampert, AG87. “The conversation was nonstop!”
The ATA's history dates back to 1905, adds ATA president Valerie Wencis, A04. In planning events, the organizers took a step back to think about how to better serve today’s modern Tufts alumna. “Women have come a long way since the organization’s founding,” she says.
With signature events like the happy hour and a book signing at Boston's Saks Fifth Avenue that included a designer discount, Wencis hopes more alumnae will come out for opportunities to learn about their Jumbo sisters—and maybe grab an after-work drink or two. “It’s exhilarating to be a part of such a valuable organization at such an exciting time of growth and change.”
