The Bubs return to campus after tour
February 05, 2010
The Beelzebubs returned to Tufts on Thursday, January 21, the first day of classes on the Medford campus, after a whirlwind trip to California and Asia, which included their successful run on the NBC TV show "The Sing-Off." Following three nights of performing and impressing judges Ben Folds, Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, and the American fans, the Bubs finished second place in the a cappella singing competition, behind the all-male group "Nota" from Puerto Rico.
Following their busy winter, the Bubs returned to Medford to an on-campus celebration sponsored by the Office of the President, Dean of Students, and Office of Alumni Relations. Event emcee Antonella Scarano, A10, vice president of the TCU Senate, welcomed the Bubs and the audience of 250 students, faculty, staff, and special guests back to campus. She was followed by remarks from President Bacow and Provost Jamshed Bharucha. Special guests included Mayor McGlynn of the City of Medford, who presented the Bubs with a proclamation and keys to the City of Medford; Somerville Alderman-at-large Jack Connolly, who also presented a proclamation; and Paul Donato, state representative, who brought well wishes from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and invited the Bubs to sing before the legislature at the State House. The evening ended with Bubs thanking the Tufts Community with a two-song performance.
The event took place at The Carzo Cage in Cousens Gym and was open to the entire Tufts Community. New England Cable News was filming as part of its upcoming documentary on a cappella music featuring the Beelzebubs. On behalf of the Beelzebubs Alumni Association, Dr. Michael Miller, A74, M78, was recording the event. Check out his photos and watch the video!
