On December 17, 70 Boston-area alumni celebrated the holiday season at Hillel’s annual Miracle Martini Night, held at the historic Vilna Shul, Boston’s last remaining immigrant-era synagogue, on Beacon Hill. The evening kicked off with a cocktail hour that featured a bass and piano jazz duo and a warm welcome from Rabbi Jeffrey Summit. The food, music, and welcome spirit provided a reprieve from the bustle of preparing for the holidays.
As revelers mingled, martinis in hand, there was ample time to catch up, network, and give back: raffles for Pats and Sox tickets, and a weekend getaway were highlights, as was the educational booth for the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda. Founded by Seth Merrin, A82, and Anne Heyman, the school and sanctuary for Rwandan orphans would soon be visited by Tufts students over the winter break—the memory of such a service trip resonated with many.

Event organizer Adam Kornetsky, A10, says the night was most enjoyable not only because it felt good to stay involved, but also because he was finally able to give back to the university in a way other than simply writing a check. “Tufts made me who I am today. I won’t forget that,” he says, adding that helping to drum up support for years to come makes events like this worthwhile to help host and attend.
The $5 validated parking in downtown Boston “was also a huge plus!”
Miss those martinis?
