Online Community Exceeds 20,000 Members

September 04, 2004

The Tufts Alumni Online Community reached an important milestone in July when membership reached, and soon exceeded, 20,000 alumni.

The community has grown by nearly 6,000 alumni over the course of the last year as staff in the Office of Alumni Relations have worked hard to raise awareness about its many benefits.

Enza Vescera, web services manager, and Molly Lupica, web services coordinator, are the stewards of this critical communication tool. “Their commitment to quality customer service and to helping fine tune the online community have had significant impact on how the community is viewed and used,” said Laura Ferguson, associate director of communications for alumni relations.

The site was launched in October 1999, but membership didn’t begin to grow vigorously until after a new and improved design went live in May 2003 and staff began concerted marketing of the community. The combination of clever postcard designs, reminder blast emails, and prizes ultimately proved strong incentives.

The monthly newsletter is only one benefit of being an online community member; update your profile in the alumni directory, find friends, submit a classnote, search or post jobs in the career center or post a message. To become a member or to learn more, visit the Tufts Alumni Online Community.
