Online Community enhanced with new features, new design

May 02, 2003

Classnotes, webpage tools, and a career center are all part of an enhanced Tufts Online Community.

Launched April 29, the revamped site is now an integral part of the Tufts alumni website, creating a one-stop online service center with all the information and tools alumni need to stay connected with each other and Tufts.

Strengthened by navigation improvements and new features, the online community site is now both easier to use and more useful. Intuitive links direct alumni to the most commonly used sections of the site. The online directory has become the "alumni directory" while permanent email is now identified as "alumni email." Both links have been added to the main navigation of the alumni site making these popular services more readily accessible.

Alumni will also find it easier to update their profiles in the alumni directory with the addition of an "update your info" link. Industry studies have shown that these seemingly minor changes can have a real impact on a user's experience navigating a website.

Popular features such as the directory and email, have been supplemented with the addition of new functionality. New features include:

Career Center - alumni can post resumes, search for jobs, or post an open position at their company

Classnotes - a popular section of the magazine, alumni can now submit and view class notes online

Chapter Webpages - alumni groups, chapters and classes can now create a webpage for their group

A major marketing push is scheduled to accompany the relaunch of the site to make more alumni aware of the suite of free internet service available to them. Additional incentives to register include a drawing. Alumni registered by August 31, 2003 will be eligible to win these prizes:

first prize: Dell™ Inspiron 5100 Notebook and carrying case< (features include -- Intel Pentium 4 processor; memory: 512 MB/266 MHz; hard drive: 40 GB; CD-RW/DVD combo; 56K internal modem; Windows XP; nylon carrying case)

second prize: Canon™ Power Shot A70 digital camera

third prize: $50 amazon.com gift certificates

Existing and new registrations completed through August 31, 2003 will be eligible for this drawing. One first prize, three second prizes and five third prizes will be awarded. Winners will be selected at random. Alumni should ensure that the information in their profile is up-to-date so they can be contacted if their name is selected.

The improvements to the online community reflect the ongoing efforts of the Tufts University Alumni Association's commitment to serving, informing, and engaging alumni around the world. The enhancements come one year after the TUAA launched a comprehensive, new website highlighting all programs, benefits, and services available to alumni.
