Tufts Alumni Philadelphia joins Friedman School of Nutrition for “Healthy Bites”
July 29, 2010

On Saturday, July 17, 2010, 45 Tufts alumni, family and friends joined Tufts Alumni Philadelphia and the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy for Healthy Bites: Understanding the Source of Your Food. The event is part of the Tufts’ Food For Thought Series which brings the topics of food, wine and culture to various cities in the United States and features award-winning chefs from the Tufts alumni and parent community.
The group fought the heat and enjoyed a tour of Red Hill Farm in Aston, Pennsylvania, led by co-managers Abygail Ollila and Mira Kilpatrick, and learned about community supported agriculture (CSA) and sustainable farming. Katie Cavuto Boyle, N04, MS, RD, and Marc BrownGold also led an onsite local food sustainability panel discussion. Katie, a 2004 graduate of the Friedman School at Tufts University, promotes farm to table fare and use of seasonal, local ingredients, and wants to show others how easy and fun it can be to love a healthy lifestyle. She was one of 10 finalists on season 5 of The Next Food Network Star and is currently the dietitian for the Philadelphia Phillies and Healthy Bites, her market and café, prepares the team's pregame meals.
At the conclusion of the panel discussion, Katie and Marc hosted a live cooking demonstration using ingredients fresh picked from the farm that all were able to enjoy!
