Description
The Tufts University School of Engineering invites all alumni to attend a lecture and discussion by Chris Rogers, Director of Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) on his latest research on ways to bring engineering into the classroom. A cocktail reception will precede the discussion, and as part of the event, hosted by Phil Swain, E80, at his offices at Foley Hoag LLP, attendees will be able to view displays of CEEO research. Tufts School of Engineering Dean Linda Abriola will provide opening remarks, and the lecture will be followed by dessert.
Lecture synopsis:
Using LEGO bricks to re-engineer STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Learning
In this talk Chris Rogers will highlight some of the work at Tufts' Center for Engineering Education and Outreach that has helped thousands of teachers on all continents bring engineering into the classroom. The Center combines research on how children (and their teachers) learn with engineering research in how to develop robotic systems that are easy to use yet very capable. This coupled with outreach efforts with teachers around the world has led to millions of students from kindergarten through college learning engineering with their hands. Rogers will show some of the results of both the engineering and education research, but end with how students have actually used the LEGO toolset to investigate science, math, and even literature.
