Connect with Alumni
Students and the Alumni Association
Beginning with your arrival on campus, the Tufts University Alumni Association is committed to building and sustaining traditions for Tufts students. Here are just a few of the annual campus programs supported by Tufts Alumni:
Freshman Class Orientation Celebration
On the first night of Orientation after parents have departed, this is one of the only opportunities students will have to be in one place with all of their classmates until senior graduation. A representative from the Alumni Association welcomes the newest students on the Hill, and the evening provides a relaxed opportunity to celebrate a new beginning, enjoy food and activities, and meet new friends. Tufts Alumni Association is a co-sponsor for the event, and each student receives a “Tufts Alumni” beach towel with their class year on it.
The Sophomore Class Halfway There Celebration
Each April, members of the sophomore class are invited to the library roof to toast the milestone of reaching the halfway mark of their time at Tufts. Sophomores also receive a special class mug and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and jazz music. The event is co-sponsored by the Sophomore Class Council and the Tufts University Alumni Association.
Junior Class Event
Every year, the Alumni Association celebrates the Tufts Junior Class, many of whom are studying across the globe, with a special event.
Welcome Back Seniors Reception
On the first day of classes each fall, all members of the graduating class are invited to attend this special event, which is held on the President’s Lawn. Students receive their Senior class t-shirts, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, and are led in a toast to kick off their final year by President Lawrence S. Bacow. This event is sponsored by the Tufts University Alumni Association.
100 Days 'Til Graduation Celebration
Co-sponsored by the Senior Class Council, this event provides seniors the opportunity celebrate their final undergraduate year at Tufts, and officially launches the countdown to graduation. Representatives from the Board of Trustees, Tufts University Alumni Association’s Executive Committee, and Boston Tufts Alliance often attend along with hundreds of seniors. Tufts University President offers a champagne toast to the seniors at the reception.
Senior Dinners
Members of the senior class are invited to Gifford House, the President’s Residence, to dine with President and Mrs. Bacow and local alumni. Throughout the night the students mingle, talk with alumni, and share their favorite memory from their experiences at Tufts. The Senior Dinners occur throughout February and March and are sponsored by the Tufts University Alumni Association.
The Senior Class Career Series
The Office of Career Services offers a number of programs throughout senior year to provide career, graduate school, networking, financial planning, and other advice. The events include alumni-student career networking before the Fall Career Fair, presentations on “Life After Tufts” by alumni and career experts, and seminars on how to be prepared for the “real world” and what advantages a Tufts education provides.
Tuftonia’s Day
Tuftonia’s Day is Tufts’ own holiday, an event which pays homage to the founding of the university on April 21, 1852. Each year in late April a large carnival is held on campus, featuring games, food, and music, and the evening culminates with a fireworks display above the Hill. Tufts University Spirit Coalition (TUSC), a student-run organization, plans the event, and in 2009, the activities were opened to the local alumni community. The Tufts University Alumni Association is a co-sponsor of the event.
